For the last two weeks our Star Name has been Eddie. As usual, we interviewed our Star Name to find out more about his identity. We explored the form of the letters in his name and practiced the letter formations and sounds in different ways. One of our favourite sounds in Eddie was the 'd' because we got to practice making the 'd, d, d, d' sound with drumming!

This week at ISS we explored two important celebrations:
We've played with the story in different ways - both as a whole class and in small groups during our free playtime. If you want to listen to the story and song at home, check out the video below!
Today we participated in our very first Sports Day! It was a hot day, but luckily there was no haze or rain. We had lots of fun running in a race and playing the games in our activities rotation. Thanks to all the families who came out to support us! And thanks to Mr. Nathan and Mr. Roy for organising!
In Kindergarten 1, Star Name is our invitation to alphabet knowledge. Each 2 weeks, a new child is chosen as our Star Name. As a group, we will study the letters in the name, including what they sound like, look like, and relate to. We will also identify other words that start in a similar way. Every child will also have the opportunity to ask the “Star” a question about him or herself. The letters in the “Star’s” name often will be the focal point of sound sorts, letter hunts, and handwriting.
We are looking forward to finding out who the next Star Name is on Monday! :)
In the first week of school, we practiced sketching what we saw with pencil and charcoal. Working without colour allowed us to focus on the shapes of our features. Working with a fragile medium like charcoal allowed us to slow down our drawings and accurately represent the features we were viewing in the mirrors. The following week, we worked on digitally representing our faces using the ABCYa! web tool Make a Face.
Finally, we create collage people to represent ourselves. We did this in two different ways. This time we had the opportunity to use colours and clothing ite
What is your favourite colour? Why?
