Last week during 'Read to Self' time someone asked Ms. Alison: "Do you have the ladybug book?". During our outdoor play and visits to the Butterfly Garden we have also been really interested in insects. These two things inspired Ms. Alison to find The Grouchy Ladybug in our school library and plan some fun counting experiences with the story this week. |
After reading the story, we counted the number of dots on the grouchy ladybug on the cover of the book. We counted 7! Just to be sure, we double-checked our counting, pointing to each dot, and saying only one number for every dot counted (one-to-one correspondence). After the story, we practiced our counting skills. At one station, we rolled dot cubes and counted the number of dots that we saw. We then counted out the same number of bugs onto our tree cookies. As an extension, we matched the numeral to our number of bugs. At another station, we added dots to ladybugs after rolling our dot cubes. |
