Thank you K1.2 for all your sweet wishes and advice! I'll be thinking of you this summer! :)
All of the children know that Ms. Alison will be getting married over the summer holidays. All year it has been a hot topic of discussion in our classroom. Lots of theories have been discussed and demonstrated over lunchtimes and in play about what is important for weddings and being married. Mr. Nathan recorded some of these theories on video during one of our outside playtimes.

This week we said goodbye to friends and Kindergarten 1 with a couple of special activities. On Thursday we had a picnic with our families. All week, we spent time writing letters to our friends and shared some of them at our final Afternoon Meeting on Friday. Happy summer holidays to everyone. Play lots and have fun! See you back at ISS in August! :)
Through this discussion, we started to think about what a story needs to have in it to be a fairy tale. Near the end of our discussion, AJ said: "It has to have more good guys than bad guys". Most people were very enthusiastic about this theory and agreed. Not everyone was in agreement though, so we decided to test the theory. First we made a big list of all the stories we thought were probably fairy tales. Then we wrote a letter to Mrs. Grant, our librarian, to collect her ideas so we could add even more stories to our list. We made a chart to keep track of the stories we had read and how many good and bad characters there were in each story. Once we'd added the story and characters to the chart, we then put a tick mark or X on our big list of stories to represent whether the story fit our theory and was in fact a fairy tale.
This week some of the children got together in their free play to create a dramatic and musical retell of Little Red Riding Hood. Their performance shows their understanding of the details, characters and sequence of the story, as well as how to use drama, props, puppets, instruments, and singing to tell a story.
Lately we've been talking a lot about the upcoming changes in our lives. We only have 6 days left in Kindergarten 1! Some of us will be moving to Kindergarten 2 at our school and some of us will be moving to different schools or countries. Today we visited a Kindergarten 2 class to do some learning and exploring about the changes we might expect.
Thank you to Kindergarten 2.1 who helped to answer our questions and calm our worries. They also showed us some of their favourite areas, activities, and games in their classroom to help us understand the types of things that happen in K2. Thank you for your help K2.1! We are excited to move to Kindergarten 2!
As part of our inquiry into how 'Stories are shared and responded to in many ways', we've been exploring the line of inquiry 'How stories relate to our world.
Earlier this semester Grade 3 worked on creating sets, puppets, and scripts to retell The Three Little Pigs. Today they showed this work to our class. What a great opportunity for us to practice our listening and viewing skills. We have read lots of versions of The Three Little Pigs and Grade 3 exposed us to some more creative versions. Some of us also got to thinking about how we can make our own puppets and story sets!
Yesterday we celebrated all of our progress and accomplishments in swimming with the Elementary School Swim Gala. We had so much fun visiting 8 different activity stations and showed off our swimming confidence and skills. Thanks to Jenni for helping us in the water and all the other mums and dads who came out to support us. A big thank you to Mr. Nathan and Mr. Dino for organizing! What a fun day!
