Thank you K1.2 for all your sweet wishes and advice! I'll be thinking of you this summer! :)
All of the children know that Ms. Alison will be getting married over the summer holidays. All year it has been a hot topic of discussion in our classroom. Lots of theories have been discussed and demonstrated over lunchtimes and in play about what is important for weddings and being married. Mr. Nathan recorded some of these theories on video during one of our outside playtimes.
Thank you K1.2 for all your sweet wishes and advice! I'll be thinking of you this summer! :)

Ms. Alison saw a strong connection to appreciation here which is one of our PYP Attitudes. So we set out to collect more leaves and paint them for the tree. We worked for most of the day creating something that we could give to nature in return for all it gives to us. Finally we strung our painted leaves together and hung them in the place that we thought the tree could see it best. We continued this emergent project throughout the week even extending our painting to sticks and rocks.
This week is our first week at school after the holidays. We have welcomed three new friends and enjoyed reconnecting with our returning friends. We have been missing one special friend though, Mrs. Mano our teaching assistant, who has been ill and absent for most of the week. We are looking forward to seeing her again sometime next week, but in the meantime wanted to send her a message. We wrote words and drew pictures to make cards and posters for her and then created a video message. We miss you Mrs. Mano! See you soon! :)
A few weeks ago Max asked: Who is the tallest man in the school? This question immediately created a lot of excitement and busy discussion during our Morning Meeting. Theories were shared and everyone agreed that our Principal Mr. Pinchbeck was probably the tallest man in the school. So Ms. Alison asked us two questions:
First we represented our theories and justifications in our math journals:
Next we addressed the question: How can we find out? Again we went to our math journals to represent our ideas. When we presented our ideas in a class meeting and discussed, two main possibilities emerged:
Later that week we invited the five men to our classroom to line them up and measure them. First we lined them up and debated how they should be arranged to be in correct order from shortest to tallest:
Thank you to all of our male teachers who helped us with our investigation!
