Yesterday we celebrated all of our progress and accomplishments in swimming with the Elementary School Swim Gala. We had so much fun visiting 8 different activity stations and showed off our swimming confidence and skills. Thanks to Jenni for helping us in the water and all the other mums and dads who came out to support us. A big thank you to Mr. Nathan and Mr. Dino for organizing! What a fun day!

For the last two weeks our Star Name has been Jack from Jack in the Beanstalk. This name gave us an opportunity to explore the letter 'J' which was new to some of us. The name and story also gave us an opportunity within our unit of inquiry to explore the key concept 'perspective'. Many of us had different opinions about Jack and the 'good' and 'bad' characters in this story. Some of us thought Jack was principled and some of us thought he was not. We worked on sharing our opinions and justifying our ideas with a Philosophy for Children discussion: We also represented our ideas with drawing and writing in our journals:
Last week we visited the Asian Civilisations Museum to explore some aspects of the local culture and explore how stories relate to beliefs and traditions in this part of the world. We explored the museum in three groups and each heard three different stories. Since our visit, we have been working on drawing and writing some of the stories we heard. Each of us chose our favourite story and expressed it in the two different ways in our journals.
If you want to see our individual videos, check out our personal portfolio pages. For the last two weeks our Star Name has been' Wolf'. . . as in the Big Bad Wolf from The Three Little Pigs! The Wolf gave us a chance to study the letter W. We were able to think of so many other words that start with the 'w' sound! We also had many questions for the Wolf. We sent him a letter in the mailbox and he emailed Ms. Alison with a voice recording answering our questions!
Today at our swimming lesson some of us had to show our courage and risk-taking skills to face a new challenge...jumping into the big pool with life jackets on! Here we are!
Some of us also used the iPads for our retells, focusing on apps like 'Draw & Tell by Duck Duck Moose and My Story.
Most of us were interested in retelling the story through acting, like we saw on the stage at the theatre. Group members designed their own masks, costumes and even built a stage to perform their stories. One group even added sound and music to their performance using the instruments.
