For the last two weeks our Star Name has been a little different. Our Star Name was 'The Ugly Duckling' but the word we studied was "quack"! This is the sound we thought the duckling might make. It also gave us a chance to study the sounds 'qu', 'u', 'c', and 'k'. One of the most challenging things for us was the formation of the lower case 'k' in D'Nealian handwriting. Luckily Libby wore her lace up shoes to school one day so we could make a connection between the shape of the letter and the shape of a bow. |
The other thing that was a little bit different this week was our Star Name interview. Instead of really interviewing a person (or duck!) we wrote a letter with some questions. And guess what! The ugly duckling (or beautiful swan) wrote us back with some answers. We had lots of theories about how a duck could write us back...like maybe the author of the book helped him, or maybe he got some help from K1.1! Our questions for the Ugly Duckling show how much we understood about the story and what critical thinkers we are becoming about the literature and stories we explore. |
