As part of our 'Who We Are' unit of inquiry, we have been exploring the line of inquiry 'Who I Am'. We have spent a lot of time discussing our favourite things, including colours, things to do, places, and people. This week we talked about our favourite and least favourite foods. We started by reading I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato which tells about a little girl called Lola who is a very picky eater. We made personal connections to the story and shared our experiences with most and least favourite foods. |
We recorded our initial ideas on paper with drawing and then had a chance for a tasting experience! We connected this to our alphabet studies and Word Work - for each food we tasted we connected it to a beginning letter and sound. This tasting experience required a lot of us to be risk-takers! Some of the foods we said we didn't like or had never heard of or tried before, but we were still encouraged to take at least one little bite of everything. |
Through the tasting and during reflection, some of us discovered that we like new things! Some of us were able to remember our favourites as well. Keshav: I don't like the apple with the skin, but now I do. Akari: Tomato is new. I like it. I love apple. Favourite. Sen: Orange is yummy. Keshav: I never had kale before. It's yummy! I like it. Sofia: I had orange and I liked it. I tried kale but I didn't like it. Eiji: I like all! Mikhail: First time for orange and lime. I like it. |
When we were finished tasting, we continued with our drawings and writing, including more examples of our most and least favourite foods.
