Throughout this week we saw and listened to many stories, each told in a different way. We went to the library where we had a story session with Ms. Grant. In class we have been discussing about 'What do we need in a story?', ' Do story books need to have pictures?' ' Can a story book have only pictures and no words?'. We have been looking at different 'characters' and 'settings' in the stories, as we start writing stories on our own. This week we had Akari`s Mum come and read to us a Japanese folk tale. One of the main characters in the story was the beautiful crane (bird). After the story we tried our hands on making a paper crane, through the art of Origami (the the art of paper folding), which is often associated with Japanese culture. Thank you dear parent for the cultural insight ! This week we worked at our Math stations arranging quantities on the ' Twenty frame' , ordering the numbers using puzzle and numbering the quantities as well. We added up the quantities and wrote down the numbers as well !

We discussed the words starting with 'J' and 'W' . We discussed the FORM of her name by exploring the letters and sounds. It demonstrated our growing alphabet knowledge. We made a connection between our inquiry into storytelling and counting through the story MOUSE COUNT. It is about a snake filling up a jar with one mouse at a time till he had all the 10 mice in the jar. As we followed the story, we wrote down the number of mice in the jar, in our white boards.
