What a wonderful day! K1 experienced their first ever ISS International Day. We viewed the Parade of Nations, some drama performances, and visited 4 different county rooms - Japan, China, Malaysia, and Australia. The day ended off with a delicious international food buffet. Everyone showed their national pride and showed a lot of interest and open-mindedness to the cultures of others! Thanks to all the families, teachers, and students who made this special day possible! Yesterday we had our first Skype call with our new Kindergarten friends at our sister school, BISS, in Beijing. Both classes of children were so excited to meet each other after a few weeks of technical delays. First we greeted and introduced ourselves by name. Then we each had a chance to show some exciting things from our classrooms and learning. Some of us even prepared special gifts to surprise our new friends! Next time we talk to our friends we want to do even more sharing. In between our video calls we will share things via email. We are currently working on preparing videos of our goodbye song and Keshav reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear to send to our friends. They will be sending us a video of their goodbye song which they sing in English...and Mandarin!
To help us learn more about our Star Name Eiji, we also watched Sesame Street podcasts for the letters E and J:
We used giant tracings of our whole bodies to express our identities creatively using a range of materials. We took the time to explore our physical features again using mirrors and carefully selected materials to accurately represent our FORM, including eye colour, hair colour, and skin colour. First our families played with us and joined our Morning Meeting. Using the story as inspiration to focus on FORM, we created portraits of our parents, concentrating on accurately representing the shapes and colours of their physical features. We also wondered: "How am I connected to the people around me?" We drew pictures of ourselves and our friends and family, as well as the things we have in common. For example, our favourite foods and activities. We finished the morning with a shared potluck snack! Thank you to all the mums and dads who joined our Family Morning and supported our learning! We hope you had fun!
One day we each made our own number lines with chalk, showing how we could order and form numbers to 10. When then jumped forwards and backwards on our numbers lines consolidating forward and backward number sequence, as well as our gross motor skills. Later, some of us challenged ourselves to go further than 10!
