Last week K1 visited the Adventure Playground at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. Since then we have been reflecting on how we moved at the park by representing our movement in different ways. First we worked as a class to map our movement around the whole park:
As a whole class we also spent some time constructing what we remembered about the Adventure Playground using different building blocks and materials:
After completing some drawing and writing in our journals about the Adventure Playground, the children had an opportunity to select a material or 'language' that they felt would best express their movement experience at the playground. Some children chose to work with paint, some chose playdough, and some chose clay and popsicle sticks. Their children were able to describe their pieces of work in detail to peers and teachers, matching them to photographs from our field trip and explaining their movements.
We also had some fun re-enacting our movements at the Adventure Playground using the iPad app (????). This gave us an opportunity to practice some of the direction and positional words we have been practicing as part of our Maths curriculum, including:
Though they weren't able to join us on the Adventure Playground field trip, Jumi and Eddie also participated in these movement representation activities. Eddie imagined his movements at the Adventure Playground and Jumi showed what hers look like on the school playground.
