As part of our investigation into shadows, we came to three agreements about shadows:
Ms. Alison realized that the third agreement about the sun was a misconception, so we set out on a new investigation.
Later that day, Mr. Pinchbeck visited us in our classroom. He demonstrated how the sun's position changes in the sky throughout the day. As the sun changes positions, the shadows that we see also change.
This reminded us of a page in our storybook Bear Shadow where we see the sun move across the sky and the shovel's shadow move too.
Mr. Pinchbeck also talked to us about how the sun doesn't really change, but instead the Earth spins (rotates) which makes it look like the sun is changing.
We waited a few days for the ideas to collect. In the meantime, Ms. Alison re-read the book Bear Shadow and demonstrated again how when the light's (sun's) position changes, so does the shadow.
