For two weeks now we've been studying the story The Gingerbread Man as part of our Word Work programme. We've read different versions of the story and developed our Concept of Word in Text or COW-T (matching spoken words to written words in text) by shared 'reading' a portion of the text. We focused on two letters in the story - M & R - looking for them in the story and sorting words that start with those sounds into two groups. |
We also practiced our emergent writing skills by drawing and labelling our own gingerbread men: Finally we celebrated our learning and practiced retelling the story by baking our very own gingerbread men! This also allowed us to explore some measurement concepts.
