This week we read the story Let's Count Goats! by Mem Fox. As we read the story, we counted and re-counted the goats. We have been practicing lots of "double-checking" to be sure that we are saying only one number for every item counted! After reading the story we created number lines, challenging ourselves at our own pace. Some of us created number lines to 10, some to 12, some to 15 and some to 20. |
We then chose and circled our favourite number on our number line. Finally, we used pastels to draw our favourite number of our favourite animal! There were 9 bunnies, 15 cats, 20 cheetahs and more! As we completed our drawings we had to concentrate carefully to count and draw the correct number of animals. Again, we counted and re-counted. Some of us exercised our thinking and planning skills, using our personal number lines to 'count on' from a certain number to see how many animals we had left to draw. |
