For the last three weeks our Star Name has been Kotaru. We investigated the FORM of the letters in his name (letter shape & sound) and interviewed him to learn a little bit more about our friend.

For the last two weeks, our Star Name has been Mayu. We explored the FORM of the letters in her name (sounds and shapes) and thought about what other words start with 'm' like Mayu. We also began to explore syllables (or 'sound chunks') and counted 2 syllables in Mayu's name!
For the last two weeks our Star Name has been Eddie. As usual, we interviewed our Star Name to find out more about his identity. We explored the form of the letters in his name and practiced the letter formations and sounds in different ways. One of our favourite sounds in Eddie was the 'd' because we got to practice making the 'd, d, d, d' sound with drumming!
In Kindergarten 1, Star Name is our invitation to alphabet knowledge. Each 2 weeks, a new child is chosen as our Star Name. As a group, we will study the letters in the name, including what they sound like, look like, and relate to. We will also identify other words that start in a similar way. Every child will also have the opportunity to ask the “Star” a question about him or herself. The letters in the “Star’s” name often will be the focal point of sound sorts, letter hunts, and handwriting.
We are looking forward to finding out who the next Star Name is on Monday! :)
