We love hunting for light and noticing it in different places around our school. Last week on our official Light Hunt, we documented many places we saw light using the app Explain Everything. Through our discussions though Ms. Alison noticed that we weren't sure about the difference between a light source and a place that light shines or reflects. |
Olympia: Light doesn't come from your eyes or the inside because it comes from something else and then it goes onto outside so we can see more. Ms. Alison: What do you think the light is coming from? Olympia: Light is coming from flashlights, lights, and can also come from things that shine like disco balls and CDs. Ms. Alison: Is light coming from inside the disco ball? Olympia: No it's coming from outside. Maanya: If you put the disco ball outside all the light can go on the disco ball. We also reminded ourselves of some things that had been said about reflection during earlier discussions: Max: Reflections is when something bounces off. Maanya: When the light goes back on your body and that happened with the disco ball and the flashlight and the mirror. |
Dillon: That might be a firework.
Libby: No because in books there's no fireworks.
Cailynne: Only in the sky.
Mana: Maybe the light's not inside. There's even light coming from there. [pointing to window] Maybe it's from there or even the sun or the lamp.
Ms. Alison: Very interesting Mana. It sounds like you're talking about reflection.
Caileigh: Or it's coming from all the lights everywhere.
Maanya: No because sun is not ever going to reflect because sun is up in the sky.
At the end of the story, we completed a sort grouping the pictures cards into:
- Light sources
- Light reflections
