For the last two weeks we have been developing our concept of word in print (ability to accurately point to words as they are being read) by exploring the poem 'Jump Rope'. We have been practicing reading and re-reading this poem, pointing to the words as best as we can. The poem also gave us an opportunity to learn about the word 'I'. As a connection to our current inquiry into human movement, we played with jump ropes outside. For many of us, it was the first time we had ever tried skipping! This activity also helped us to memorize the poem as we repeated it while our friends jumped rope. |
