As our unit of inquiry progresses, we have been developing more vocabulary related to movement and sharing more stories about our personal experiences with movement. A few weeks ago, we started to talk about how we move long distances after reading the book We All Go Traveling By.
We started by discussing how we all travel to school and created a class pictograph to analyse which forms of movement were used by "more" and "less" people. |
These discussions prompted us to think about other ways we travel long distances, including the journeys between our home countries and Singapore.
During their free play, several children began to construct an airport and role play with planes. Ms. Alison took notes about this project and photographed the work, seeing the connections to our unit of inquiry. She proposed the work as a whole class project and all the children responded with enthusiasm! For the last few weeks, we've continued this project with commitment, showing an ability to think about personal experiences and observations, as well as cooperate with our peers using open-minds.

This week, we invited Mr. Gallagher, an airport and airplane expert, to our class to show and share his experiences with airports and give us some feedback on our work. His presentation prompted us to think about the FORMs of different airports, as well as how they FUNCTION. After seeing different airports and hearing Mr. Gallagher's advice we have decided that we need to add these things to our class airport:
